Why do people get involved?

  • Need a better life
  • Tricked by "recruiters" or "pimps"
  • Poor
  • Abducted by force
  • Escaping conflict at home
  • ("Identifying and Interacting With Victims of Human Trafficking")

Then victims are transported by cars, vans, trucks, buses, or planes. When they arrive at their destination, their identity is changed and they are given fake identification cards, in case they are arrested.

"The business of human sex trafficking is much more organized and violent. These women and young girls are sold to traffickers, locked up in rooms or brothels for weeks or months, drugged, terrorized, and raped repeatedlyThese continual abuses make it easier for the traffickers to control their victims. The captives are so afraid and intimidated that they rarely speak out against their traffickers, even when faced with an opportunity to escape" (Walker-Rodriquez).
